Ōtautahi Midwives care for pregnant people and their whānau living in Central, South, East and West Ōtautahi (Christchurch). Est. 2016.
We are a team of 9 registered midwives providing Lead Maternity Care (LMC) care, from antenatal, labour, birth and postpartum care up to 6 weeks.
Ōtautahi Midwives love to care for people planning to have a normal uncomplicated birth with minimal intervention. We encourage those with healthy pregnancies to birth in the primary maternity units or at home if they wish. We support birth at the tertiary hospital for those whose journeys do become complicated or high risk.
We provide care for urgent midwifery needs, labour and birth care 24/7. Your LMC midwife works on call and takes every second weekend off call from Thursday 5pm - Monday 8am, when she is off call, you will be looked after by the rest of the on call team for that weekend with your first port of call being the back up midwife.
Antenatally, your midwife will see you at their antenatal clinic. During labour and birth we offer home labour assessments and then support you to birth where you have chosen. Postnatally we will visit you at a maternity unit and/or your home.
